IDPs in Maungdaw urgently need help

The refugees who fled to Maungdaw due to airstrikes by the Military Council in the northern part of Maungdaw Township in Rakhine state are in urgent need of food, basic items, and medicine.

As a result of the air strikes, the number of people fleeing the war who stayed in the religious buildings of Maungdaw has increased, and they face a shortage of food, basic items, and medicine, and having only two bathrooms is also causing difficulties for refugees, one of the IDPs said.

He added that the IDPs also need blankets, mosquito nets, medicine, and sanitation pads.

In addition, the refugees cannot afford to buy drinking water, so they have to get their drinking water from the well with a pitcher pump in Sanpya village, which is a fifteen-minute walk from the refugee camp.

The IDPs have suffered seasonal fever, a runny nose, and a cough due to the seasonal shift , sharing their medicine.

In Maungdaw town, there are about 1,000 war refugees who fled from more than 20 villages in the north of Maungdaw, and about 300 children do not have access to education.

Since late August, the Arakan Army (AA) has occupied some of the military council's border guard posts.

The locals in more than 20 villages to the north of Maungdaw had to leave their homes and evacuate to Maungdaw as a result of the military council force's heavy attacks using military helicopters and fighter jets and bombarding nearby villages.

Those who fled to Maungdaw Town are from villages such as Pharwutchaung, Aungtharyar, Aungmingalar, Kyeinchaung, Nanthartaung, Mingalarnyunt, Taungpyo, Aungthabyay, Khamaungseik, Laungdon, Yangaungpyin, Tharyarkone, Mingyiywar, Upper Pyuma, Tamanthar, Minkhamaung and Meedike.
