Unidentified group detonates grenade in Ayeyarwaddy’s Pathein Town

There was a grenade explosion near the No. 5 Ward Administration Office and the municipal chairman’s residence in Pathein Town, Ayeyarwaddy Region at 8 pm on 17 September.

According to a local, the municipal chairman’s office, the ward administration office and police housing are all located in No. 5 Ward. He added that currently, casualty numbers from the bomb attack are unknown.

Another local said: “I don’t know if the attack was a warning or not, I am not sure. The main target was unclear. The ward administrator and the police frequently meet for drinks in the No. 5 office late at night. I heard that an unidentified armed group threw a grenade.”There have been no official statements released by local PDFs and other revolutionary groups from the Pathein Town area. Currently, it is not known who carried out the attack.

According to a Pathein Town resident, the military council troops and police from the Pathein police station arrived shortly after the explosion and carried out an inspection of the area.
