Regime forces release more than 100 residents arrested as human shields

More than 100 residents who were captured as human shields by the junta forces y during the battle near Bawapin village in eastern Dawei, Tanintharyi Region, have been released, the officials from the People’s Defense Force officials told Than Lwin Times.

On September 6, the Military Council, who advanced towards Bawapin village, captured more than 100 locals as human shields following a clash with the PDF joint forces.

After that, the junta forces tortured some of the local people they had arrested, and on the night of September 13, they left the arrested people at the monastery of Bawapin village, where they had been stationed.

An eastern Dawei PDF member said that the residents who were arrested as human shields have returned home and are receiving treatment for their injuries.

The military council confiscated the company's cars and related equipment used in the production of heavy weapons from a compound of a metal-producing company in the east of Dawei, and continued to leave for Dawei.

The military troops opened fire with small or heavy weapons along the road to Dawei, and it is not yet known if there was any damage.

There is ongoing conflict between the Military Council and the PDFs in eastern Dawei, with frequent raids.
