Soldiers’ wives and offspring providing security amid weak strength in battalions

As the number of troops in the military council battalions in Mon state has decreased, the wives of the soldiers have to take turns providing security, the sources close to the military council told Than Lwin Times.

After the National Unity Government (NUG) announced the launch of a People’s Defensive War on September 7 last year, fighting between local People's Defense Joint Forces and regime troops intensified in most regions and states.

"The military soldiers were injured in these battles. More than 20,000 soldiers of the military council suffered huge losses after the defensive war was declared," Acting President Duwa Lashi La addressed on September 7.

A source says that two women and four soldiers are assigned to a gate, while in some units there are five women and three soldiers, and they provide security twice a day for 6 hours each.

If the wives of soldiers fail to perform their assigned duties, the battalion headquarters will cut off their monthly basic food supplies.

Most of the army families wanted to run away from the battalion forces, but they were closely monitored by the military council.

The People's Embrace group has reported that there are nearly 8,000 soldiers and policemen, including majors and lieutenants, who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) after the military coup.

According to the military council, a battalion must have at least 85 front-line personnel, including officers. However, since there are fewer than 85 front-line personnel, various military council headquarters are putting pressure on subordinate battalions, according to unconfirmed reports.
