KIA Seize Regime And Shanni Camps In Hpakant Township

The Kachin Independence Army attacked the Burma Army (BA) and Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) in Hpakant Township. According to man close to the armed group, two camps in Sel Zin with hundreds of BA and SNA soldiers were seized, leaving casualties on all sides.

After the coup in February 2021, the SNA moved into the village, prompting the KIA to attack Sel Zi, which currently has no mobile phone service.

In late July, the BA abducted five Sel Zin youths and later released three of them. According to a local source who requested anonymity, the youths were abducted after the armed forces allegedly discovered something about the military operations of the BA and photos of the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) on some of their phones

At the end of June, KIA and PDF fighters killed many BA soldiers in a raid on the forces in the village near the border with Sagaing Region.
