Nursing University Opening In Karenni State

The Federal Nursing University, founded by nurses who left their posts to join the civil disobedience movement against the dictatorship, will enrol 100 students for the 2022-2023 academic year.

According to a member of the Karenni Nurses Association (KNA), internally displaced persons (IDPs) between the ages of 17 and 35 will receive priority because of their disadvantages getting a education, while the same age groups living in town areas will receive second consideration.

“With assistance from professional nurses, we’re developing a curriculum for the nursing programme and have six nurses who’ve volunteered to teach classes,” she told Kantarawaddy Times.

She explained that everyone has to take an entrance exam and apply between 25 July and 15 August.

KNA, the Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government and the Karenni State Consultative Council are organising the four-year diploma course, which leads to a Bachelor of Nursing degree. After graduation, they must work in Karenni State for at least two years.

It has been a challenge to open the university under the military regime, the source said, explaining that its aim is to provide adequate health care for the population and educational opportunities for the youth.
