Three injured by artillery fire in Hpakant Township

Three people were injured when the army fired three artillery shells into Hmawbon Village in Kachin’s Hpakant Township at about 11 p.m. on 19 June.

At about the same time, there were two bomb blasts at the township office in Hpakant Town.

Many people were injured when troops stationed at Sangkha Prison fired the shells.

One exploded in Lane (9) of Hmawbon Village and injured a woman’s leg. The other two shells landed near to a restaurant on Lane (7) and injured a woman and a man.

According to locals, one of the women hit by a shell was rushed to Hpakant People’s Hospital. Last month, two men were killed by artillery shells fired by junta troops based at Sankha Prison.

Also, on 19 June at 11 p.m. a bomb exploded in the Hpakant township office in Hpakant Town and 30 minutes later another bomb exploded outside the township office, according to locals.

A resident who lives close to the township office said to Mizzima: “We don’t know who set off the bomb, but the sound was very loud. The whole family was shocked.”

Currently, security in Hpakant Township is very tight.
