BGF forces attack Myawaddy Township’s Lay Kay Kaw village

Over 300 members of junta aligned Border Guard Force (BGF) militia have been attacking Lay Kay Kaw Village in Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 6 territory south of Karen (Kayin) State’s Myawaddy District, Karen (Kayin) State since 26 May.

A Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) source said: 'Many military soldiers and BGF invaded the Lay Kay Kaw area. We received ground reports that say they [the military council and BGF] are reinforcing and spreading their soldiers out around different Lay Kay Kaw wards.”

 

The BGF forces that attacked Lay Kay Kaw were BGF Battalion (1019) led by captain Kyaw Phaw and BGF Battalion (1018) led by Captain Tin Win according to information received by Mizzima.

It is believed that the junta forces are preparing to attack the nearby military base of Thay Baw Bo that revolutionary forces seized from the junta on 18 May 2022.

Currently the BGF forces are stationed at their camp on the Thaung Yin River near the Thai-Myanmar border.
