Military Council’s Union Election Commission orders suspension of all election processes

The Union Election Commission (UEC) has instructed its sub-commissions to suspend all preparations for the election.

Following the coup, the military council announced that it would hold new elections in 2023  and instructed to verify the ground population census and to begin preparation works for the accuracy of the voter list in the past few months.

But for now, the Union Election Commission (UEC) instructed, in the third week of March, all relevant sub-commissions to suspend all preparations for the election.

“The military council's directive stipulates a moratorium on preparations for the election process until further notice due to the current political situation and no specific reason has been given,” said an official from the Mon State Election Commission.

Regarding this, the Than Lwin Times tried to reach the officials of the Union Election Commission, but they did not respond.
