Myanmar Military Council forces have been seizing expensive motorcycles and auctioning them at the police station in Khayan township, southern district of Yangon, locals say.

Security forces have been seizing the top-end motorcycles and auctioning them at the police station without any payment to the owner, a local resident told Mizzima.

The local people say that only high-end motorcycles such as Click motorcycles and PCX

scooters were selected, and no Chinese brands were seized.

The security forces have not been making the confiscations in a fixed spot, but they have been driving around in Khayan township.

The vehicles are typically seized under the pretense that there is something wrong with the motorcycle or the rider has no license.

“Someone who had a motorcycle seized was asked for a license. It was confiscated without

having a license. And there was no contact left. Soldiers and police were present at

the time of the incident,” a local person said.

In one incident on December 29, the security forces seized about 20 motorcycles for various reasons

from the civilians and they were patrolling by using eight confiscated motorcycles

around the city that night, local media Khayan Channel reported.

The military has been stepping up its operations since the beginning of December, following a series of deadly attacks by local People’s Defence Forces in the township. In addition to strict restrictions on entry and exit of the city, the local people in Khayan have been subjected to a series of violent repression, according to locals.
