Bomb At Hpakant Township High School Injures At Least Six

At least six people were injured on Friday morning when their school bus detonated a concealed landmine in Hpakant Township. According to a local, the bomb was planted on the premises of Mawsizar High School in Lon Khin village tract.

A parent of a student was seriously injured in the blast, while a student and three teachers sustained minor injuries. The explosion also injured a motorcyclist who was near the entrance of the school in Kachin State.

No one knows who is behind the attack on the school, which opened in early November after the regime forced schools across the country to resume classes after they were suspended when teachers and students took to the streets in protest against the military dictatorship after the 1 February coup.

Only about 100 students have returned to the school in Mawsizar while only 800 students are attending classes at the 8 schools that have reopened in Hpakant Township.
