Police re-arrested 10 detainees, including a parliamentarian of the ruling National League for Democracy party, at the main gate of Meikhtila Prison, just after they were released on 18 October.

MP U Lwin Maung Maung was taken to the No.1 Township police station, according to close relatives.

The source told Mizzima, “He was taken together with other prisoners by police immediately after they were released at the prison’s main gate. We don’t know why. When we followed them to the police station, a person shouted for us to leave. Family members could not communicate with them.”

Although the junta announced freeing 38 political prisoners—34 men and 4 women, only 28 of them were released as they re-arrested 10 persons, including NLD party members and some veteran politicians.
