Militia group threatens possible deadly consequences at Mandalay gem market

A local militia group called for a suspension of the Mandalay gem market on 12 October to avoid deadly consequences for the merchants as it is a financial source for the junta regime.

After the gem market in Maha Aungmyae Ward on 66th street was closed since the outbreak of COVID-19, it was reopened on 12 October under the security of the police.

Junta authorities also pressed the merchants to reopen their shops when the market was resumed.

The statement by Generation Z Power Mandalay said, “Resumption of the gem market is meant to revive the junta administration by paying taxes. It is requested all gem merchants not abide by the orders and instructions of authorities.’

The statement of militia group said, “As gem merchants are likely to operate business near junta forces, your lives will be put at risk, and will lead to deadly consequences.”
