Arrests increase in Yangon

Underground revolutionary activists told Mizzima that military junta forces have been conducting raids and large-scale arrest in townships of Yangon since early August.

During the last 10 days at least 20 underground revolutionaries have been arrested in possession of their weapons, according to one of the participants in the revolution.

Another underground revolutionary activist said, "It is possible that the military council is preparing for a stronger response to the NUG and the PDF and make people fear more.”

12 people were arrested by military council forces in Sanchaung township and Kamaryut township on August 18, according to data compiled by Mizzima.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) announced that 5,937 people were unjustly detained between February 1 coup and August 25.
