A commander of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Khaplang, Captain Chusimu was shot dead in Sagaing Region on Monday, according to the Naga rebel group.

“He was shot dead at point blank and [while another person] was injured in the leg” at Motawafam village Layshi township in the Naga hills on the north-west frontier of Myanmar, the two were unarmed at the time of incident, according to a press release.  

Captain Chusimu served the organization for more than a decade. He was from Kula village Tisary Region and was a father of two children  

“We still don’t know who the culprit is”, an officer from NSCN-K told Mizzima.

NSCN was founded in 1980 to achieve a union between Naga living in northeast states of India and Sagaing Region in Myanmar. In 1988, the organization split into two factions, the NSCN-K led by S. S. Khaplang based in northern Lahe and Nanyun townships in Sagaing Region, Myanmar and the NSCN-IM, led by Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah in India.
