Number of displaced people increased in Myebon Township

Since hostilities between the Tatmadaw and Arakan Army have intensified in Myebon Township, the number of internally displace people has increased.

As many as 3,679 people from Hinkhayaw, Taung Pauk, Nyaung Kan and other villages have been taking shelter in nearby places such as Kyee Kaung Taung,Taung Gyi Yin, Yay Shin, Myoma Kuthinar monastery, Yet Chaung, Pin Kut and Kan Htaung Gyi villages.

“More than 100 people have reached Hinkhayaw on 14 December. We need more food. We arrange places for them at the pagoda because we could not afford to build shelters for them,” said Ko Than Win, manager of Kan Htaung Gyi refugee camp.

Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Pe Than for Myebon Township said that refugee camps need help for food.

“They need donors for IDPs. The government sometimes provides K300 for a person for food. There is no problem for accommodation. They are given places at monasteries. But they need food on a daily basis,” the MP said.

The number of IDPs in Arakan State has increased to nearly 100,000 because of the ongoing fighting between the Tatmadaw and Arakan Army and IDPs are facing challenges for food and other hardships.
