Tatmadaw arrests four civilians in Minbya Township

Win Nyunt — Four civilians from Pyaing Chaung and Kyauk Maw villages in Minbya Township have been arrested by the Tatmadaw, according to their families.

Ko Aung Kyaw Win and Ko Thein Tun Aye from Pyaing Chaung village were arrested on 24 November while they were herding their cattle.

“A military troop met them and took them because they have been suspected of having ties to AA,” said a villager from Pyaing Chaung who give comment anonymously.

A landmine exploded near Kyaukmaw village on the morning of 24 November at about 8 a.m. and a father and son from the village were arrested by the Tatmadaw, their family members said.

U Kyaw Maung Sein,61, and Ko Aung Mya Win,35, were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the detonation of landmine, a family member said.

“The father was on his way home from tending to cattle when he heard an explosion. When he arrived at home, soldiers were in the village, and he was detained. Then, the sons were summoned by the military for questioning. Aung Mya Win has land close to where the bomb exploded. He was arrested because he owns the land near the blast site,” a family member said.

The Tatmadaw took the villagers to Palae Taung village. Family members are worried about the safety of detained villagers because the Tatmadaw does not allow them to meet with detained villagers.

Colonel Win Zaw Oo from the Western Command said that he has not been given yet the report about the arrest of villagers.
