EIA discussions for planned Offshore Supply Base cancelled

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the planned Offshore Supply Base (OSB) project in Andin-Ywa-Thit-Ta-Min-Sake villages in Ye Township will no longer be held.

Offshore Supply Base agent Ko Nai Oo told Mon News Agency here will be no more EIA discussion. No reasoning has been offered. The See Trust Co., Ltd. and Forever Thanlwin Co., Ltd. had planned for community discussion about the project and the required Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the morning of November 14th.

Local people have been protesting the project, with signs saying “No Offshore Supply Base” on the roadside of Ta-Min-Sake village.

Abbots from the Pharlain region, monks, Village Administrators, Village tracts community leaders, senior citizens, and youth from eight villages including Andin, Kuu-Katar, and Ywa Htit- Ta-Min-Sake have opposed the project and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) meeting.

Local people believe the construction of the Offshore Supply Base (OSB) will bring destructive impacts to their villages and harm their livelihoods.
