It was noted from the parents that some did not engage in the riot in which 6 of the youths involved on 20th February on Chin National Day were sentenced 4 and half-year in prison.
“Our son came home at 10 pm when the incident happened. He got a stroke before and asked him to come back home earlier. He did it on time. A young student stayed with us also insisted that he arrived at 10 pm. It was heard that the incident happened at 11 pm. He was apprehended on 24 February under suspicion and we did not expect (the detention) to be long under just suspicion but he was not released shortly. In order to be released, we paid 1,800,000 to the police to repair the police car which was actually nothing to do with us. Hiring lawyer also cost us. We also paid the township police chief and the police station officer but 4 and half-year imprisonment was sentenced” said the mother of Maung Htet Nain Oo, one of a person who was imprisoned.
It is noted that having involved the local youths and some police members in the riot on the event of 71st Chin National Day which was hold at Bo Thi Coen Stadium and alleged that public assets were destroyed, the 6 of youths were caught as the suspects.
With the incident above, the local youth detained by the police were Aa Baung (23), Sawm Thang (19), Than Then (25) and majoring history 3rd year, Baik Thang (23), Htet Nain Oo (19) and majoring history 1st year and Ring Sang (21) and sentenced four and half-year in prison.
The result of the verdict released to the six of youths imprisonment, it is known that on 29th October the local people would express their concerns on justice system to seek pardon and to get revised decree.
“A member of Chin Youth Organization which is going to lead the expression event said “of 6 there were the two university students, the two grade tenth students and the rest was under the guidance of parents. The expression is to seek pardon as the will of the parents. It is not about fault-finding”
Due to the incident, a private car and the police car were destroyed but the youths were not caught on the incident night. They were arrested the days after the incident.
