olice shoot, detain alleged killer in Minbya

Police say they shot and detained a knife-wielding man who allegedly killed two people and injured two more in Minbya Township, Arakan State, on October 2.

Minbya police said that Maung Han Thein, 39, was drunk when he tried to attack pedestrians near Kyat Sin bridge.

“We were informed about him so we went to that place. One of the pedestrians, U Sein Hla Aung died on the spot and another person, Daw Oo Kyar, died in hospital. The other two people were brought to Minbya hospital too,” deputy police officer Aung Thu Myo said.

Dr Soe Myint Tun from Minbya township hospital said that they snet the injured people to Sittwe hospital. He said that one suffered a leg injury and the other was injured on her head.

“Ma Zar Zar Moe has a broken leg. Daw Hla Nu was injured on the back of her head. After we did the necessary urgent medical treatment, we transferred them to Sittwe hospital,” Dr Soe Myint Tun said.

The suspect was transferred to Minbya prison’s hospital ward and is receiving medical treatment.
