Court fixes date over property of U Wirathu

Yangon Western District Court has fixed the date for hearing of the attachment of property of U Wirathu in the case against him.

Yangon Western District Court pronounced an order on August 9 regarding the attachment of movable and immovable property of U Wirathu as per provisions of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) after U Wirathu failed to appear before the court by that deadline on August 9.

The court ordered U Wirathu to appear before the court to face the trial under section 88 of CrPC but he has not yet appeared.

U Wirathu was charged with under section 124(a) of Penal Code (Sedition) for his speeches delivered at demonstrations for supporting constitution held in Myeik, Tanintharyi Region and Kyauktada, Yangon Region.

After the accused failed to appear before the court, the district magistrate gave the order to continue court proceedings and hearings ex-parte in his absentia and nine prosecution witnesses have reportedly been examined. The court fixed the next hearing for September 23.
