Mong Yang People’s Militia leader and wife killed at home

An unknown armed group attacked against the residence of the Mong Yang People’s Militia leader in Mankaung village, Mong Yang village-tracts Lashio Township on August 20 killing him and his wife.

A responsible official from ‘Pay Thaw Let’ (rendering hands) charity organization from Lashio said, “An ethnic Shan youth called us by phone soon after the attack had taken place but we could not go there as the situation was not good, we took the dead bodies the next morning.”

The residence of the militia leader Win Maung was surrounded by an armed group which opened fire at the house from all directions with both small arms and heavy weapons.

People’s Militia leader Win Maung was found dead in the house and his wife was found dead at the outside of main door.

A responsible official from Lashio ‘Pay Thaw Let’ charity said they saw three unexploded hand grenades and ammunition around this house.

Three members of the Northern Alliance recently issued a statement which warned local people’s militia groups not to join and take part in military operations in ongoing fighting between Tatmadaw (government military troops) and their forces.
