Col. Win Zaw Oo from Western Military Region Command confirmed to Mizzima that a police convoy led by second-in-command (2 IC) of Police Battalion (32) hit a landmine while returning from Kyauktaw to Sittwe.

He added that the police were attacked by a mine on August 20 at about 9:30 a.m.

Charity organization chairman Myat Thu Hein said that though he did not know the exact number of casualties of policemen, he heard that Pol. Capt. Thaung Lwin from this Sittwe based Police Battalion (32) was killed in action, while other media reports have since suggested that five were also injured.
