Trucks over 8 tons will be denied passage on Maungdaw-Angumaw road

Trucks over 8 tons will be denied passage on the section of road from Waythali village to U Daung village on Maungdaw-Angumaw road, according to Maungdaw Township Administration Office.

There are potholes and depressions in the road’s surface that are the result of water saturation on rainy days, and trucks got stuck in the mire on 26 July and caused a road block.

“We’ve previously denied heavy trucks to travel on the road because it was designed for small vehicles,” said U Ngwe Tun, administrator of Maungdaw Township.

He did not say the exact date to start the ban.

A lot of trucks travel on this road to transport goods to Maungdaw and Sittwe and traders might face difficulties if the ban start, traders said.

The Maungdaw-Angumaw road was built in 2013.
