States and Regions Laws to be amended

Mon State legislative assembly deputy speaker Dr Aung Naing Oo said the Union Parliament had a plan to amend laws enacted by States/Regions legislative assemblies and they would be amended only after collecting the opinions of local assemblies.

“We cannot just amend these laws. They can be only amended by Union Parliament but they will amend them only after collecting the opinions of local assemblies. So these laws are being reviewed at the state level,” he said.

Mon State assembly Bill Committee Chairperson Khaing Khaing Lae said Mon State assembly legislators were reviewing the parts they would like amended and they had already prepared a draft of rules for that.

Mon State legislative assembly deputy speaker Dr Aung Naing Oo said, “We might have additions and deletions in our parliamentary business affairs rules and operating procedures concerning parliament session, authorities of assembly affairs committees, raising questions in zero hours, moving motions, presenting the budget to assembly etc.”

After the reviewing process, approved rules must be sent to Union Parliament not later than January 30 next year.
