The police have arrested another youth in Sittwe, Rakhine State yesterday.

An eye witness told Narinjara News that she saw the police arresting Ko May Yu Tun in front of Lawkanandar Pagoda in Sittwe after 11 am yesterday.

“A kid run over and told us while we were working. He said [the police] had arrested Ko May Yu Tun. After he told us, we went over and saw it. When we asked the police about why he was being arrested, nobody answered us. At that time, Ko May Yu Tun was already in the car. Nobody answered us when we asked why he was being arrested. They shut the car’s door. They didn’t answer where they were taking him. So, we asked a police officer who was following the car with a motorcycle. He said they were taking him to No. 1 Police Station. That’s how he answered,” said the woman.

Among the group of police officers who arrested Ko May Yu Tun, five of them were clad in full uniform and two of them were in civilian clothing.

Ko May Yu Tun is a Rakhine youth activist and a delegate of the Arakan Youth Conference.

Before Ko May Yu Tun was arrested, Ko Aung Zaw Linn, also known as Aung Chay, from Buthidaung was arrested at Mee Zat Kyi Junction in Sittwe after 11 am on October 9.

The police have started arresting these youths after a military corporal from the Military Affairs Security Unit was murdered at Wingabar Grounds in Sittwe.

When Narinjara News contacted Sittwe No 1 Police Station, it was told to ask No 2 Police Station since the case was concerned with that police station. When it contacted No 2 Police Station, the police chief hang up the phone after saying he was busy.
