The New Mon State Party’s chair Nai Htaw Mon said he warmly welcomes the merger of the two Mon political parties and Mon political forces on August 31.
“We are very happy to hear about the merger of the Mon parties. We only wanted one Mon political party to officially run in the election. I’m happy that they have become united. I welcome it. I feel very satisfied. The entire Mon people will be happy on this development of Mon party merger,” Nai Htaw Mon told the Mon News Agency.
The NMSP’s statement on the 71st Mon Revolution Day stated that the entire Mon people will welcome the development of the merger between the two Mon political parties and the Mon political forces, which has been striven for a long time, and they must work hard to build unity and the NMSP believes they can overcome everything with national unity, he added.
Secretary member Nai Layih Tamarh said the Mon Unity Committee and the Mon National Representative Party Organizing Committee have agreed on the merger and the party members from respective townships have selected the name “Mon Party” for the new party.
“Plans are underway to hold the introduction of the Mon Party and merger ceremony at Royal Hinthar Hotel on September 21,” said Nai Layih Tamarh.
According to the current merger, 20 central committee members from the Mon national forces and nine central executive committee members from among them are included in the new party, which has 120 central committee members and 53 central executive committee members.
The two official parties - the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMRDP) and the Mon National Party (MNP) – will soon be registered with the Union Election Commission as the Mon Party in line with the procedures.
The Women’s Party (Mon) led by chair Mi Than Shin is yet to join the Mon political parties’ merger.
