The Mon National Party (MNP) and the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP) are yet to agree to the 21-member Mon National Representative Party Organizing Committee’s offer to merge within one month.

During the meeting with the two Mon political parties held on July 6, the Mon National Representative Organizing Committee submitted a three-point proposal including the offer to merge with the two parties and hold an inauguration ceremony within one month.

Nai San Tin, spokesperson of the delegation for the two Mon parties, said the delegation did not have the authority to decide on the three-point proposal submitted by the Mon National Representative Party Organizing Committee and the issue will be submitted to the AMDP+MNP Two Mon Parties Merger Committee meeting on July 21.

“They submitted three points. They want these three groups to become one group. The party’s name will be given after the three groups have merged. Also, the party’s rules and regulations will be drafted gradually. They said all three groups will sign [the merger] together and hold an inauguration ceremony within one month before registering,” said Nai San Tin.

The 21-member Mon National Representative Committee’s spokesperson Nai Ta La Nyi said the committee is working for all-inclusiveness in merging Mon political parties.

“Mon monks and Mon people want only one Mon political party so I want to tell [everyone] to strive so that everything will run smoothly,” he said.

The two Mon parties’ merger committee and Mon National Representative Party Organizing Committee met for the first time at the Royal Hinthar Hotel in Mawlamyine on July 6.
