The coordination committee for merging the Mon National Party (MNP) and the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP) will meet with the Mon National Representative Party at the Royal Hinthar Hotel on July 6, the officials of both parties said.
“We offered to meet with them in order for them to participate in the merger. It’s for all-inclusiveness. That’s why we have offered to hold an informal talk with our six delegates. We can only decide after finding out their view,” said Nai San Tin, joint secretary of the AMDP.
The offer has been made to the leaders of the Mon National Representative Party under the all-inclusiveness policy.
“We don’t use the name ‘Mon National Representative Party’ at the moment because everyone knows that we don’t recognize it. We will regard them as a political force and discuss with them,” said Nai San Tin.
The MNP general secretary Nai Layih Tamarh said the committee met with the Women’s Party (Mon) on June 25 and it is unable to join the two parties’ merger at the moment.
“We asked how the Women Party’s (Mon) plan to join us and what they want to achieve. They told us that there is only one Women’s Party (Mon) and they will stand as this party. Briefly speaking, the Women’s Party (Mon) is unable to join the merger for now,” he said.
He added that the Women’s Party (Mon) can merge with them anytime even though it is unable to join them at the moment.
“The Mon people have been demanding the merger of the two parties from 2015 and up to now. They were unhappy due to the failures to merge in the past. That’s why their wish will be fulfilled on the coming July 21,” Nai Layih Tamarh continued.
Both parties have invited the public to give suggestions online for the new party’s name by July 15.
