Tanai MPs urge government to open official IDP camp in Tanai

Tanai MPs have requested the President on May 22 to have the government take immediately action on opening an official internally displaced person (IDP) camp in Tanai, Kachin State.

The IDPs have been living under the arrangements of Christian churches in Tanai - Roman Catholic churches, the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC), Church of Christ (COC), and Assembly of God (AG) – so the churches are facing various kinds of difficulties, according to Tanai MP U Linn Linn Oo.

“There must be IDP camps if wars exist. It’s almost a year now. An official IDP camp still does not exist. Responsibility must be taken on the lives of the IDPs. Since we are representatives from the area, we are informing this to the administrative sector,” said U Linn Linn Oo.

Over 1,000 IDPs are currently taking shelter at Christian churches in Tanai so the issue has been submitted to the President, the State Counsellor, and the chairs of the Security and Rule of Law and Tranquility committees.
