The Regional Mon Youths Network has been established on March 27 to lead in social and educational affairs for the public, the Yangon Mon Youth Network’s chair Min Khine Linn Tun said.

Mon youths from Bago, Mandalay, and Yangon regions and Taungoo Township established the network at the Singuttara Mon Pariyatti Monastery in Bahan Township, Yangon Region to cooperate in fulfilling the needs in respective regions.

“Our work program is a little different from the Mon Youth Forum because the situations are different. For example, [the Mon people] in the Mon State can speak and write in Mon. The Mon people from here can’t do that,” said Min Khine Lin Tun.

He continued that youths can support in Mon political events and the implementation of tasks will be faster due to networking among the Mon youths from these three regions when the Mon youth networks become powerful.

“We will have networking between each group and become enlightened after exchanging views between each other,” said Mi Cho Aye from the Mon Youth Network of the Bago Region.

The Mon youths met for the first time in Bago last November to discuss about establishing the Mon Youths Network.

“Youths can be shaped during this time. We give priority to them. If the youths think they should do [something], let them do it. They may be right or wrong,” said Nai Soe Aung, chair of the Mon Literature and Culture Committee (Yangon).

The Mon State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker Dr. Aung Naing Oo, the Yangon-Mon Literature and Culture Committee’s chair Nai Soe Aung and around 50 Mon youths attended the discussion on establishing the Regional Mon Youths Network and setting down the work program.
