Leaders of ethnic armed groups that signed last year’s so called nationwide ceasefire agreement and those that did not met in the northern Thai city Chiang Mai this morning to discuss the ongoing peace process—including sharing ideas for an upcoming meeting with the government on reviewing the framework for political dialogue.

Spokesperson Khu Oo Reh led the United Nationalities Federal Council’s Delegation for Political Negotiation that represents the nine ethnic armed groups that have not signed the NCA.

Pado Saw Kwel Htoo Win headed the coordination team for the eight NCA-signatory groups.

Outcomes of this meeting will be presented by NCA-signatory groups when they meet with the government in Rangoon from August 11 to 13.

All further issues concerning the peace process will be submitted during the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee meeting in the capital Naypyidaw on 15 August.
