An opposition candidate for the NLD suffered serious injuries after he and three others were attacked by 3 men with machetes at around 9 pm on 29 October.

U Naing Ngan Lin, the parliamentary candidate for Dakhinathiri Township in Naypyitaw, is running as a candidate in Yangon's No. 1 constituency in the upcoming election. He was on the campaign trail with other NLD members in Theketa Township when 4 men attacked members of his convoy.

The incident occurred as the convoy moved down Man Pyay 8 Road at around 9 pm.

“One of the guys came out and started yelling at the car. He returned with two other men with machetes and attacked the people around the campaign truck," Aung MyoOo, an NLD campaign manager who witnessed the attack, told Reuters.

U Naing Ngan Lin is in a serious but stable condition after he suffered wounds to the head, forehead, and upper arms inflicted by a large knife.

Dr. U Tin Myo Win from Yangon General Hospital said, “It is not life-threatening, his condition is good there is no bleeding in the brain and overt bleeding and also crucial organs are not damaged, and the operation is successful.”

Three other men including U Thandaw Maw, U Naing Ngan's campaign manager, who were part of the convoy were rushed to Yangon's general hospital with less severe injuries.
