Students who pass the Grade-10 matriculation exams, held annually over two weeks in March, will be admitted to university programs as long as they achieve the minimum scores required for their chosen major. Students who fail can try again next year.

Over 590,000 students across the country took the matriculation exam in 2016, including nearly 20,000 in Mon State, 12,000 of whom were girls, according to official statistics.
“The exam results will be posted in the same places as before. The locations will not be changed,” said an official from Department of Myanmar Examinations.

Results from the 2014-2015 academic year placed the Irrawaddy Division as first in the nation in success rates, with 51.78 percent of students who took the exam receiving a passing mark. Mon State came in second, with 43.40 percent, after holding the top-ranked position the previous six years in a row. Not far behind were Magway and Rangoon Divisions, with 40.86 percent and 37.16 percent, respectively.

Last year in Mon State, nearly 8,000 students passed out of the 18,000 who took the matriculation exams. Among those, 20 students received 6-subject distinctions, 60 received 5-subject distinctions, 224 had four distinctions, 293 had three distinctions, 400 students had two distinctions and 1,646 students received one.

The education system in Mon State is made up of 1,435 schools: 90 high schools, 106 middle schools, and 1,239 primary schools, according to the Mon State Education Department.

Exam results are announced at schools and exam centers, and can be found online at www.moemyanmar.net
