Training for the 1029 special police officers who have been recruited to oversee the upcoming Burma elections in nine townships in Chin State started on 7 September at Yezani Hall in Chin State.
In his opening address the State Police Superintendent, U Myint Lwin told the trainees that the forthcoming general election will be different to previous Burmese elections as it will be scrutinised by international election watch groups. He said that the special election police force will be responsible for election security and they will have to discuss and participate more than usual and because they will be playing an essential role in Burmese democracy they will have to gain the trust of their countrymen.
The opening ceremony of the training was attended by 78 people. These included the State Police Superintendent U Myint Lwin, who is in charge of the training; Police Superintendents Myint Naing and Myint Kyi; police officers; trainees; and state and district level officials.
Superintendent Myint Naing, the chairman of the training said: “A special policeman will be on duty at each polling station, there are 1029 polling stations in Chin State."
The special election security police officers will be assigned to their respective townships and be on duty from 15 October to 30 November 2015. they will also be supplied with all the necessary security equipment.
