A Myanmar military fighter jet targeted a displacement camp in western Demoso Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, killing a displaced civilian, wounding an elderly woman, and destroying a local middle school, residents said.

The attack occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, when a junta aircraft conducted three bombardment passes over the displacement site.

Witnesses reported that a father of three in his 50s was killed instantly after being struck directly by ordnance during one of the strikes.

A woman in her 70s sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical care.

The bomb dropped during the aircraft’s third pass directly hit a middle school building where displaced children had been studying, reducing the entire structure to rubble.

The airstrike comes amid escalating military tensions in the region. Junta forces have reportedly been massing troops near nearby Daw Ngan Kha village in preparation for a ground offensive.

Resistance forces and military troops clash almost daily in the area, with both sides employing heavy artillery, drones, and military aircraft.
