The Myanmar military regime has launched coordinated airstrikes on villages near the besieged Nat Yay Kan tactical hilltop base in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region, frontline sources report.

Despite a recent lull in ground combat around the strategic base, three fighter jets and two Y-12 transport aircraft heavily bombed Lai Village and surrounding areas on the Arakan mountain range.

The bombardment lasted for roughly two hours, spanning from 10 p.m. to midnight on August 2.

"Jets and Y-12 aircraft took turns bombing the area," a frontline military source stated. "A large number of bombs were dropped, but the exact extent of casualties and infrastructure damage remains unverified."

Ground sources estimated that the military dropped at least 50 bombs during the two-hour operation.

Observers believe the heavy bombardment signals a preparation for a renewed ground offensive.

"The airstrikes appear intended to clear the way and support advancing ground troops, following a familiar military tactic," said an analyst familiar with the local security situation. "However, advancing further into this terrain will be highly challenging for regime forces."

The military has repeatedly relied on air support and heavy artillery to reinforce the encircled Nat Yay Kan base. Since July 24, the regime has deployed significant troop reinforcements from Artillery Battalion No. 905, based in Padan.

The military is attempting to push forward along the old Arakan mountain range road.

However, these columns have faced stiff resistance. Each time military forces approached Gotegyi and

Pazi villages, they were intercepted and forced to retreat by anti-regime coalition forces.

The Arakan Army (AA) and its allies have captured nearly all surrounding outposts since early 2025, leaving the main Nat Yay Kan tactical base under complete siege.
