Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, leader of the coup junta, stated that his regime would offer reasonable and appropriate concessions to safeguard the nation’s interests, while urging ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) to make demands that protect both their regions and the entire nation.

He said that development will continue to be difficult as long as the country lacks peace, making peace a top priority. He made the remarks during a meeting reviewing the nation’s situation from 2021 to 2025. Min Aung Hlaing led the military coup that overthrew civilian rule in 2021.

He added that his coup regime held a total of 149 meetings: 89 with National Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) signatory EAOs, 25 with non-signatory groups, 22 with political parties, and 13 with peace advocacy organizations.

Min Aung Hlaing said the meetings helped sort out reasonable and appropriate demands, including proposals to suitably amend the 2008 Constitution, plans for regional and national development, and other requests, which will be forwarded for further discussion in the upcoming parliament.

He noted the 2008 Constitution was first drafted at the 1991 National Assembly and now needs revision to reflect current times. Emphasizing the constitution’s integrity, he cautioned that all aspects must be carefully considered when drafting any amendments.

The coup leader said his regime had guided the country through challenging times and steered it toward development. Min Aung Hlaing added that he plans to transfer power systematically to ease the transition for the next government and vowed to pass on the positive legacy his regime had established.
