In Kyain Chaung Village, Payathonzu Township, Karen State, the breeding farm of Major Saw A Wan of the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA)-2 was bombed from an aircraft yesterday. Two police officers and three local farm workers were injured, according to local sources.
Around noon yesterday, a junta “Jack-fighter” aircraft was patrolling the area around Payathonzu Township and its surroundings. At approximately 4:30 p.m., it reportedly dropped three 500-pound bombs on the breeding farm.
The bombing destroyed livestock at the farm, which houses cows, goats, pigs, and chickens, killing more than 20 animals. Two DKBA security personnel and three local farm workers were also injured, a local resident reported.
“The area that was bombed belongs to Saw A Wan. That’s where he keeps cows and goats. The police guarding the farm and local workers were hit, and some of the cows were affected as well,” the source said.
The injured police and local workers were taken to a nearby hospital and are receiving medical treatment.
The DKBA breeding farm, opened in 2023 by Major Saw A Wan, has over a hundred livestock and serves as part of their economic activities.
Although there is no active fighting in the area, the bombing may have been triggered because there are CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) health workers operating at a hospital about two kilometers from Saw A Wan’s farm, the local resident speculated.
“No battle actually happened. They just came and bombed the place. Everyone knows CDM staff are working at the nearby hospital, so maybe that’s why they did it. Bombings happen frequently in Kyain Chaung,” the resident said.
Kyain Chaung Village, about 17 miles from Payathonzu town, has been repeatedly targeted by military commission bombings. In January 2023, bomb attacks in the village injured two locals and damaged homes.
The area is within DKBA-controlled territory, and Chinese nationals currently operating a tiger farm are also residing in the vicinity.
