The junta carried out an airstrike on areas of Lone Khin Village in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, injuring several civilians.
Starting around 1:30 pm on November 11, a junta Y-12 utility aircraft circled over parts of Lone Khin Village, near the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Battalion 6 base, and dropped bombs.
“Bombs fell near the Battalion 6 base, as well as around Mawmaungbum Monastery and Kahtanhmaw New Ward. The airstrike went on for about 45 minutes,” a source close to the KIA told MNJ.
The Y-12 aircraft reportedly carried out several rounds of bombings while repeatedly flying over the targets, though MNJ could not confirm the exact number of rounds.
In Kahtanhmaw, a house was damaged and several people including a child were injured, according to a Hpakant resident.
Around Hmawsizar Village in the Lone Khin Village Tract, the junta remains in a tense standoff with the KIA and People’s Defence Force (PDF) alliance.
On November 10, two junta soldiers were killed after stepping on a landmine planted by the KIA/PDF between Hmawsizar and Lone Khin villages.
On November 9, a junta vehicle struck a landmine near Hmawsizar Road and a golf course, killing a female motorcyclist passing by.
The junta has frequently clashed with the KIA/PDF as it conducts military operations to expand its control in Hpakant Township ahead of elections scheduled for the end of the year.
