Myanmar junta airstrike kills teenage girl, injures five displaced people in Madaya township

A military junta fighter jet bombed a school sheltering displaced civilians in Won Tin Kone village, Madaya Township, Mandalay Region, killing a 16-year-old girl and injuring five others, according to the Wetlet Informational Network.

The airstrike occurred around 11:45 pm on 30 October when the jet dropped a 500-pound bomb targeting the school, said Ko Daung, a representative of the network.

“The bomb was aimed directly at the school but landed in a nearby field. Shrapnel from the explosion struck displaced people who were sleeping inside. One young woman was killed and several others were injured,” he told Mizzima.

One of the five injured is reportedly in critical condition. Ko Daung said that local rescue teams immediately began relief efforts and evacuated displaced families overnight to safer locations.

Although Won Tin Kone village itself had no ongoing fighting at the time, Madaya Township has seen intensified clashes as three junta columns launched new offensives in the area.

According to local sources, the military commission’s current operations aim to retake the Ingyin Myaing Air Defense Base and Si Taw Gyi camp — both controlled by the Mandalay People’s Defense Force (MDY-PDF) in northeastern Madaya Township.

“Primarily, the military commission is trying to seize back those bases. Fighting has been almost daily since the offensives began. Resistance forces have now advanced north of the main stream from Si Taw Dam, while junta columns remain in the south, so the clashes have slightly subsided for now,” Ko Daung said.

Another junta column has been moving north from Tan Ngar village along the main road, while a separate force operates in the western part of Madaya Township.

Across Mandalay Region, the military commission continues to conduct daily airstrikes on areas no longer under its control, including Madaya, Singu, Thabeikkyin, and Mogok townships.

Resistance groups have urged civilians to remain alert, follow air defense guidelines, and stay updated with military news to ensure safety.
