Airstrikes in Mindat kill three students and disabled woman

The junta launched airstrikes on two villages in Mindat Township, Chin State, killing three students and a disabled woman, and injuring numerous others.

Around 7:00 pm on October 8, junta aircraft bombed the villages of Vawmm'Tu and Htinchaung.

“The junta’s airstrikes at night killed three students in Grades 9 and 10, and a disabled woman also lost her life. At least ten others were injured. All the casualties happened when the strikes hit a student dormitory in the Roman Catholic church compound of Htinchaung Village,” a Mindat resident said.

The junta deployed two jet fighters to bomb the villages almost simultaneously. While Vawmm'Tu suffered damage, there were no casualties. All deaths and injuries occurred in the churchyard of Htinchaung Village.

At least six buildings, including the student dormitory and several houses, were destroyed in the airstrikes.

Earlier, on October 4, at around 1:00 am, the junta aircraft dropped bombs on two locations in Mindat Town, seriously injuring three civilians and damaging homes, the Chinland Defence Force – Mindat (CDF-Mindat) reported.

Mindat Town has been under the control of CDF-Mindat and allied resistance forces since December 2024, as efforts continue to restore administrative and civil services. To sabotage these initiatives, the junta has launched frequent airstrikes on the town and surrounding villages.

Since seizing power in a coup in early February 2021, the junta has carried out airstrikes and artillery shelling targeting civilian areas across the country, including Chin State, where at least 101 civilians have been killed, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
