On September 2, at around 12:45 p.m., the military junta fired artillery shells into civilian areas in Hpruso Township, Karenni State, injuring two internally displaced persons (IDPs), according to local residents.

The landed shell is a place where villagers and IDPs were fetching and bathing water.

A woman around 20 years old, who was preparing to do laundry and bathe, was injured in her arm, while a 31-year-old man was seriously wounded in the leg after being struck by shrapnel.

“The shell hit a tree directly and exploded. That’s how a woman fetching water and a man were injured. But those who were washing motorcycles nearby were not hit,” the resident explained.

Both victims are now receiving medical treatment, according to locals. Revolutionary groups have warned people in Hpruso Township to remain cautious, as the junta troops are active in the area and continue to fire artillery shells frequently.

On August 29, another incident occurred in Hpruso Township, where a 50-year-old male IDP was killed in a drone attack by the military junta.
