IDP population reaches 50,000 in Kyaukphyu due to fighting

Due to the intense fighting, there are currently 50,000 IDPs in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine (Arakan) State.

The number of IDPs in Kyaukphyu Township, the site of major Chinese projects, has reached 50,000 during the six months from February to August,  and it's probable that this figure will rise, according to IDP aid workers.

The number of IDPs in Kyaukphyu Township has increased to over 50,000, up from just 20,000 during the four months between February and June.

Narinjara News was informed by a local woman that the terrorist army's naval vessels, which have been stationed at sea in the coastal regions of Kyaukphyu Township, have been using machine guns and artillery shells to fire at the villages, where conflict breaks out every day, causing numerous residents to flee.

"The navy is firing these days. Not much prior to that. It's even worse now. They're shooting to make life unbearable for the residents. They're using machine guns as well. Additionally, they are using drones for firing. It’s not just a naval vessel. There are navy ships all along the coast off Kyaukphyu and Rambree townships. A lot of villagers are fleeing to the liberated areas under AA control,” he said.

The navy and Kyaukphyu-based battalions, along with jet fighters and drones from the air, are attacking the villages where the locals live, and that is why they are fleeing.

The majority of the locals who are now fleeing come from villages close to the Kyaukphyu-Rambree, Kyaukphyu-Mai, and Zin Chaung roadways, which are located outside the township.

They claim that they are now struggling to find food and make a living because they have been compelled to leave their homes.

According to a local military official who spoke to Narinjara, the junta troops have been routed by the Arakan Army (AA) in the fighting in Kyaukphyu Township, and they have been employing Chinese-made drones in the conflict. Sometimes the drones attack local villages, and the residents have been evacuated from their village.

“The more the junta army loses the battle, the more the army will target the people. In recent days, the battle has intensified. As a result, it's preferable to leave right away. Otherwise, if we get caught in the middle of the fighting, we will suffer more," he said.

In the recent months, the junta army has burned down villages that are home to civilians, using drone strikes as well as shelling from the navy and base battalions, forcing tens of thousands of people to flee.

The terrorist army's drone and artillery attacks have also compelled the remaining people who were unable to flee the war to leave their houses.

Currently, intense combat is also taking place between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta army around the Dhanyawady Naval Headquarters, located in the village of Thit Poke Taung, and in several locations, such as Kap Tha Pyay, Kularba, Mindat Taung, Leik Kha Maw, and Gawdu Mountain.
