Junta Confiscates and Burns Jade Mining Machinery

The junta confiscated heavy machinery from jade mining companies operating close to Mawsisar Village in Kachin State’s Hpakant Township and set other mining equipment on fire.

A resident of Mawsisar Village, which is in Lone Khin Village Tract, told MNJ that junta troops raided mining sites and confiscated vehicles and heavy machinery from several mining companies.

He said: “Some vehicles were seized. I think it was part of a crackdown on illegal mining companies. Mining companies are being subjected to stricter inspections these days.”

The junta had previously warned the mining companies that it would seize their dumper trucks and backhoes if they did not stop mining jade illegally, according to some residents of Mawsisar Village.

On 31 May 2025, the junta burned two backhoes that had been confiscated from mining sites near Mawsisar Village, according to another villager from Mawsisar.

He said to MNJ: “It’s true, junta troops really did burn the backhoes. They set fire to the ones they had confiscated from around Mawsisar Village.”

On the same day, 31 May, the junta also burned down the staff dormitory at the 111 Jade Mining Company compound in Mawsisar Village.
