Junta Conducts Eight Airstrikes on Western Pekon Township, Resulting in Civilian Casualties

On December 3, at approximately 3 a.m., the junta launched airstrikes near Saikhun Village, located in the western part of Pekon Township along the Shan-Karenni border. The attack resulted in civilian death and severe injuries, according to local sources.

“One person was killed, and another was seriously injured,” a local administrative official from Pekon Township reported.

The deceased is believed to be a 14-year-old boy, while details about other injured person are still being investigated by Kantarawaddy Times.

Eyewitnesses stated that the military deployed Y-12 scout aircraft for six of the strikes and two jet fighters for the remaining attacks. They dropped nearly 40 bombs in total.

In addition to human casualties, livestock were also harmed during the bombings.

Since November, the junta has launched airstrikes and artillery attacks on villages and displacement camps along the Shan-Karenni border.

These targeted attacks have killed 12 civilians in Pekon Township alone over the past month, including three children under the age of 10.

A local woman stated that the junta targeted attacks have increasingly extended to civilian areas far from the sites of battles within Pekon Township.

“They [the junta] don’t differentiate between armed groups and civilians. To them, displaced people are no different from revolutionary fighters. They target areas where civilians live on purpose, even when there’s no fighting happening nearby. This has made it very difficult for people to feel safe.”

Pekon Township lies along the Shan-Karenni border and serves as a key route for military operations and supplies because it is connecting with the Union Highway.
