Mon National College will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to establish a higher education partnership, according to a spokesperson from Mon National College.
The MOU signing ceremony will take place at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University during the second week of December.
Officials from Mon National College (MNC), the New Mon State Party (NMSP), and the Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) will attend.
"We have agreed to sign an MOU with Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. We are drafting the specific agreements that will be included in the MOU. The signing is planned for the second week of December," said Dr. Nai Pone Nyar Mon, Principal of Mon National College.
The MOU will include agreements for Chiang Mai Rajabhat University to recognize Mon National College students as higher education learners, accept Mon students for study at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, and establish a dual-degree program between the two institutions. The agreement also aims to enhance the teaching approach, administration, and cooperation in educational development.
"This agreement follows our earlier MOU with Payap University. We have successfully negotiated the terms with university officials and have submitted the agreements for approval. We are also discussing future MOUs with other universities in Thailand and abroad. Our goal this year is to sign MOUs with about three universities," Dr. Nai Pone Nyar Mon added.
MNC previously signed an MOU with Payap University in Chiang Mai in February.
In addition to Chiang Mai Rajabhat University and Payap University, Mon National College also plans to sign MOUs with Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Thailand and Purdue University Fort Wayne in the United States.
Mon National College, operating under the New Mon State Party, was established in June 2022 at the Mon National Education Committee's Yebyu Camp in the Ye Chaung Phya area. The college aims to enable Mon students to pursue further studies at international universities. About 300 students are currently enrolled at Mon National College.
