Most of the residents who fled fighting in Tedim Town in northern Chin State have returned to their homes since the end of July and the town is getting back to normal, say residents.
“Most people have returned, but those whose houses were burned and families with children still attending school [elsewhere] have not yet come back. The hospital reopened on 1 August, and it is now accommodating a significant number of patients,” said a Tedim Town resident.
Public hospitals and schools in Tedim Town have reopened, and electricity and internet services have also been restored. Junta-run government offices in the town have also resumed their operations.
According to reports two Non CDM Doctors (doctors not participating in the civil disobedience movement) are working at Tedim Hospital.
Another resident said: “There are many people in the town. The junta soldiers are staying in their camps and aren’t often seen outside. Sometimes, some junta soldiers come from Kale Town but they go back shortly afterwards.”
On 27 May 2024 allied forces from the Zoland People’s Defence Force (Zoland PDF) and the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) seized two junta military bases in Tedim Town as part of Operation Chin Brotherhood.
It was as a result of this offensive that most people fled from Tedim Town.
There has been no fighting in Tedim Town since Operation Chin Brotherhood finished and people are gradually returning.
