ULA/AA: Our Policy is Self-Determination and Confederation

During a press conference on June 8, U Khaing Thukha, spokesperson for the United League of Arakan/ Arakha Army (ULA/AA), stated that his organization is solely focused on achieving full self-determination and confederation.

“We the ULA/AA, remain dedicated to the principles we have always upheld. Our position has not wavered. To date, ULA/AA has not called for separation yet. Our goal is to achieve full self-determination and to establish a confederate system”, U Khaing Thu Kha replied to a reporter who asked about ULA/AA’s political objectives.

U Khaing Thukha reiterated that ULA/AA is solely pursuing a confederate path to forge its own destiny and establish a Rakhine society capable of determining its fate. "The way of Arakan" is the path for Rakhine State to shape its future, and ULA/AA aims to build this future by ensuring the equality, rights, and responsibilities of all ethnic groups living in Rakhine State.

The Junta is encountering setbacks in its conflict against AA in Rakhine State. It reaffirms its stance is not seeking secession.

In response to an inquiry regarding which organization AA will receive support to lead the country between NUG and the military regime, U Khaing Thukha stated that this hinges on the will of the entire Myanmar populace.

"When it comes to deciding between the Junta and NUG, our focus is on what the people of Myanmar want. What is crucial is accountability, responsibility, and getting things done. That is why we support choosing the one who can best fulfill the government's duties for the people”, he said.

He further emphasized that AA will throw its support behind a government that aligns with the desires of the entire Myanmar population.

Currently AA holds considerable strength and a military edge in Rakhine State, and collaborating in combat with the People's Defense Force (PDF) across various ethnic territories and regions across Myanmar.
