Junta’s Drone Bombing Attack at Sane Market in Rakhine State

In Sane town, Kyaukphyu Township Rakhine State, a local woman was killed and three civilians sustained injuries in a drone bombing attack carried out by the Junta at the town’s main market at around 7:30 am on May 8.

"The woman who died had opened a tea shop near the market, and those who were injured were shopping at the stalls nearby her shop when the bomb struck”, a witness said. All the injured individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment, with two of them in serious condition.

Residents reported that between 7:00 am – till 9:00am that day, Junta troops conducted at least 8 drone bombing attacks in various areas of Sane town, including one at the main market.

Due to the Junta's bombing strike, at least 7 stalls in the market were incinerated, leading to substantial destruction of goods for sale, a local told DMG.

"When the bomb hit, the vendors panicked and fled, and the fire destroyed food and other goods. We are uncertain of the exact value of the losses”, he said.

Since April, the Junta has regularly bombarded Sane town and nearby villages with artillery, drones, Navy vessels, and Air Force aircraft, creating instilling fear among residents.

On April 25, a fighter jet bombed the villages of Thitkatoe and Laebonkyauk near Sane town, resulting in the death of one resident and injuries to two others.

Amid a series of military setbacks in Rakhine State, the Junta has intentionally targeted civilian areas, escalating shelling and airstrikes as acts of vengeful retaliation, leading to a rise in civilian casualties.
